Sri Lanka is a small island when compared to other islands. Therefore, even a tiny hit affects almost the entire island massively.
Since Sri Lanka is a developing country, it is difficult to recover from disasters such as tsunamis and flooding. These disasters have a substantial negative impact on people’s lifestyles. People lose homes, belongings, properties, and family members because of these disasters. This has been occurring from the beginning of time, and aids have been coming from all across the land.
In 2004, Sri Lanka faced a massive tsunami right after celebrating Christmas. It hit Sri Lanka very severely and caused a lot of families in the coastal area to lose their families and loved ones. It was a tragic disaster that affected Sri Lanka quite severely. Every year, Sri Lanka faces floods in some parts of the island due to heavy rains. Flooding has been number one on the disaster list that affects people in Sri Lanka. Apart from those disasters, Sri Lanka also faces plagues and infections because it is an island as the wind carries germs and bacteria.
Every year, Sri Lanka faces floods, and in 2018, Sri Lanka suffered a massive hit in the Southwest due to monsoon floods. The entire southwestern province got affected by losing their properties and lives.
Landslides are another common disaster that can victimize Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is full of hills, and because of rains and floods, landslides come along to worsen the situation. But a lot of citizens are now aware of the area they are living in and take precautions before something happens. Even though Sri Lanka faces disasters every year, it has always been able to manage everything because of the unending support from the fellow Sri Lankans and foreigners.
